Ying Wang

Please join our faculty member, Dr. Ying Wang for her lecture Land of Snow: Snow Mountain Worship in Tibet. This lecture is part of the CHINA event series at St. John’s on the Lake in Milwaukee.

“This center of heaven
This core of the earth
This heart of the world
Fenced round by snow…”

(from ancient Tibetan scripture)

Thus is a little-known and mysterious land described: Tibet–at the rooftop of the world. Its architecture, traditions, and rituals. Its religion, mythology and arts. All find shape and meaning in sacred tribute to snow and to mountains as Dr. Wang’s lecture will illustrate.

Ying Wang is Associate Professor of Asian Art and Bronze Age China at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she teaches courses in the art and architecture of Asia with emphasis on modern and contemporary Chinese art. Her academic degrees are from the Central Academy of Fine Arts (Beijing) and the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Wang has published articles on the styles and materials of Bronze Age China and sustains research interests in gender issues in the Bronze culture of China.
