June 6, 2017  |  News & Events, Provost's Updates

Good morning, colleagues. Here is this week’s update from Academic Affairs.

Chancellor’s Presentation at the Board of Regents (BOR)
Please join us in the Union Wisconsin Room Thursday (June 8) at 1:15 p.m. as Chancellor Mone presents, “At the Intersection of Innovation and Impact: What’s at Stake?”

Reminder: Title IX Training
If you have not completed your Title IX training, please do so as soon as possible. Check your email for a message with the subject line “University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Title IX Course Status Reminder.” All UW employees are required to complete this training by June 30.

Kudos

– Rebecca Klaper, Freshwater Sciences, received a Fulbright award to the United Kingdom for the upcoming academic year. She will be based at University of Birmingham in the U.K. working with colleagues there on the metabolomic impacts of emerging contaminants on freshwater organisms. Congratulations, Rebecca!

– Tim Patrick, Health Informatics and Administration, received confirmation that the second edition of his book, “Health Informatics: A Systems Approach,” will be available fall 2018. Well done, Tim!

– The UWM National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NSSLHA) chapter 2017 once again earned the highest level of national recognition, Gold Chapter Honors, for their outstanding performance in fundraising, community service, advocacy, career awareness, and member recruitment. Congratulations to all!

L&S Dean Search and School of Continuing Education

I hope to conclude the L&S Dean Search soon and will make a decision regarding leadership in SCE by next week.

The Week

Tuesday
I have my monthly meetings with Val Klump and Dave Clark. There is also a “prep” meeting for the upcoming BOR meeting later this week. I will then travel to the School of Continuing Education for a meeting. In the afternoon, I’ll attend the University Committee meeting and bi-weekly meetings with Joely Urdan and Tom Luljak.

Wednesday
I have my monthly meeting with Kim Litwack. I have a budget meeting with the Chancellor, followed by a UW System Provosts’ meeting. Later, I’ll host a social hour for the UW System Provosts and attend a reception honoring Regent Eve Hall.

Thursday – Friday
I’ll be attending the Board of Regents meeting here at UWM (Outline Agenda). We have no new programs going before the Education Committee, but will be making three presentations: Closing the Achievement Gap, Math Reform, and M3. On Thursday evening, I’ll attend the Staking Ceremony and Reception introducing the new Lubar Entrepreneurship Center and Welcome Center’s construction site.
