Now I’m: an intercultural strategist. I focus on cultural elements in technology and business strategy, and cross-cultural communication in the digital realm.

I came to Translation & Interpreting Studies because:
I was seeking a second career, after a long career in banking and corporate finance, and a break to raise kids while moving the family around Latin America. I thought financial translation would be a flexible continuation of my prior career, but my studies opened up many doors and new ideas, eventually leading me to start a consulting business in world cultures.

What career advice do you have for current or potential TIS students?
Use your time in academia to explore new areas. I was a TA, translated poetry for a Portuguese author, worked as an interpreter in the emergency department at St. Luke’s, got certified as a medical interpreter and on Trados, self-published an interpreter’s guide, and set up gigs as a telephonic interpreter and transcriber. All of these were for, or extensions of, class assignments.
