November 13, 2020 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

The UWM Libraries are hosting a virtual panel discussion, “Fall into Research: Publishing in a Pandemic,” on Friday, November 13, 2020 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.

Each fall the UWM Libraries organize special discussions about academic publishing as part of our annual Fall into Research program seriesPast Fall into Research programs have brought in trainers from Web of Science, editors from Mary Ann Liebert and Springer Nature, and featured faculty panels on book publishing with SAGE, academic journal publishing with IEEE, and more.

This year we are taking our panel discussion online to present Fall into Research: Publishing in a PandemicSince the closure of campus this springthe UWM Libraries started compiling publications by UWM faculty and staff on COVID-19 research in our Digital Commons. Those publications sparked our desire to organize a panel discussion with the researchers. We wanted to hear how journal editors and authors are navigating the unique challenges that COVID-19 has raised for scholarly publishing including how this global pandemic has altered research processes and publishing practices.

Our distinguished panelists include:

Laura Peracchio is the Judith and Gale Klappa Professor of Marketing at the Lubar School of Business. Laura’s areas of research interest are focused on Transformative Consumer Research including food and nutrition issues, storytelling, visual persuasion, children’s consumer behavior, and language and culture. She is the immediate past Editor of the Journal of Consumer Research.

Linnea Laestadius is an Associate Professor in the Public Health Policy and Administration area of the Zilber School of Public Health. Her research is focused on social media, novel technologies, and health. She has recently published on COVID-19 communication in online settings.

Nadya Fouad is the University Distinguished Professor, and Mary and Ted Kellner Endowed Chair of Educational Psychology. She studies how people make career-related decisions, particularly in understanding the work choices for women and underrepresented minorities. Nadya is an editor with the Journal of Vocational Behavior.

Nicholas Silvaggi is an Associate Professor in the Chemistry and Biochemistry department. He studies the relationship between enzyme structure and function, which is important for engineering enzymes to perform specific tasks.
