The University of Oregon has recently published a website that is the culmination of four years of research with Caribbean women elders in their healing practices. This site hosts interviews with these elders, as well as an ethnobotanical guide of their gardens, located throughout the Caribbean and in the U.S. Pacific Northwest. The methodology behind this project “disrupts Eurocentric and elitist documentation practices that privilege the ethnographer’s authority while relegating our communities to a secondary status”, and aims to interrupt the colonial gaze that labels these healers as “primitive” or basing their work in “superstition”.
