Dr. Rubens Lopes, Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Oceanography at the University of São Paulo, will present a talk entitled, “The AtlantECO Project – Atlantic Ecosystems Assessment, Forecasting, and Sustainability.” Learn more about Dr. Lopes’ research here.

The EU-funded AtlantECO project aims to develop and apply a novel, unifying framework that provides knowledge-based resources for a better understanding and management of the Atlantic Ocean and its ecosystem services. In pursuit of this goal, AtlantECO is bringing together scientists from Europe, South America and South Africa with the relevant resources, knowledge and experience. In addition, AtlantECO will engage with citizens and actors from the industry and policy sectors in order to stimulate responsible behavior and Blue Growth. This presentation will discuss the three pillars of research of the AtlantECO project: microbiomes, plastic and the plastisphere, and seascape connectivity.
