UWM hosts international conference on Translation

Translation & Interpreting Studies (TIS) was elated to participate in the UWM Center for International Education’s Annual Conference. This year’s conference was entitled Translation.

The conference addressed the regulations and contestations of what is translatable, untranslatable, and by/for whom–in sum, the politics of translation in the widest sense of the term. It explored translation in its most expansive, trans-disciplinary sense: translation as exchange, migration, and mobility, including media circulation and cross-cultural communication.

A number of UWM faculty, including Lorena Terando, were awarded fellowships for the conference year. On April 23–25, 2015, the fellows were joined by international Translation scholars from an array of disciplines, who study translation from varying perspectives.
