The Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS) develops, supports and promotes teaching, research and outreach about Latin America and the Caribbean.
CLACS provides a number of different services and resources for students, the community, and faculty.
For students, CLACS facilitates a number of study abroad opportunities and fellowships and scholarships to support study abroad. CLACS also sponsors programming and guest speakers to enhance and supplement students' classroom experience. The center also provides support for the Latin American, Caribbean and US Latino Studies major, as well as the Latin American and Caribbean Studies undergraduate certificate program. For more information, see the majors section or the certificate section of our web site.
CLACS is active in the community, particularly with K-12 institutions, providing professional development workshops for teachers and curriculum development resources to help teachers incorporate Latin American and Caribbean topics into their classrooms. CLACS also is a sponsor of the annual Latin American Film Festival which brings hundreds of people to campus for unique viewings of films not available anywhere else.
CLACS was recently awarded 2014-18 Title VI National Resource Center (NRC) and Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships (FLAS) funding by the U.S. Department of Education and is jointly funded in a consortium with the UW-Madison Latin American, Caribbean, and Iberian Studies Program.
