Ancient Mediterranean Studies

This program is not accepting new students after the Summer 2018 term. Anyone interested in this certificate must have declared their enrollment in the program prior to the end of the Summer 2018 term.

The Certificate in Ancient Mediterranean Studies provides students with a thorough understanding of the culture and society of ancient Greece and Rome. UWM students can develop an in-depth understanding of the classical Roman and Greek civilizations by studying their history, art, and languages.

Our certificate is interdisciplinary with coursework coming from classics, history, art history, anthropology, and philosophy. Many students who are majoring on one of these disciplines find the certificate to be a nice complement to their major.

While only two semesters of either Latin, Greek, or Biblical Hebrew are required for certification, the added value of certification with language proficiency is available for students who continue on to take an additional 9 credits of upper-level Latin or Greek.
