Beastly Conference Submissions

February 5, 2019 @ 8:00 am - February 15, 2019 @ 12:00 am

Do you have something to say about animal representations in fairy tales, fables, or cartoons? Animal metaphors (such as “the birds and the bees” or “a wolf in sheep’s skins”)? Intrigued by humans behaving “like animals”? Animal intelligence and animal consciousness? Animal rescue, companion animals, or even animal testing?

Students, faculty, and staff from all backgrounds and disciplines (including but not limited to creative writing, environmentalism, business, film, anthropology, and architecture) are invited to submit proposals for the inaugural Beastly Conference. Projects should be of interest to a general, non-specialist audience. Each applicant may submit up to 2 proposals for consideration (a major piece of no longer than 10 minutes and/or a minor piece of no longer than 3 minutes).

Submit a 250-word description of your creative or academic piece (or a similarly sized sample of your creative project) to Jacqueline Stuhmiller (stuhmill@uwm.edu) by Friday, February 15th at midnight. The selection committee will announce their decisions the following week. The Beastly Conference is co-sponsored by the Honors College and Office of Undergraduate Research. It will be held on Friday, March 29th in Honors House 196 (time TBA).
