The Department of Geography at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee stands in solidarity with Black students, faculty, and staff and with ongoing protests in support of racial justice. As we plan for the future of the department, we intend to deepen our commitment to the legacy of our late Distinguished Professor Harold M. Rose, who transformed the discipline with his groundbreaking research on racial segregation and discrimination. We endorse the American Association of Geographers Statement on Racism , and we pledge not only to make anti-racism and racial equality central to our research, teaching, and service missions, but also to work with our colleagues across the campus and the discipline to develop concrete steps for making this pledge meaningful.
