Wallace Pyawasit Leadership Award

For over 30 years, the American Indian Student Services, the American Indian Student Association, and the American Indian Studies have recognized an individual from within the Milwaukee Native community with the Wallace Pyawasit* Leadership Award.

We realize that there are many individuals who are deserving of this award.  We now ask your help in identifying our community members who have demonstrated an unfailing commitment to American Indian causes through leadership, generosity of spirit, and ability to approach community problems with wisdom, foresight, and a positive attitude.  If you know someone who you feel should be recognized for contributions to the betterment of the community in his or her employment or volunteer efforts, please take the time to nominate them.

Please use the form below to summarize the nominee’s community activities, contributions, and attributes.

Our deadline is April 1, 2024.  We plan to present the Wallace Pyawasit Leadership Award during our Honor for All (awards event) here at UWM on Saturday, April 20, 2024.

* Wallace Pyawasit, Menominee, is remembered for his sensitivity, kindness, humor, cultural knowledge, and the ability to bring a spirit of peace to those around him.  He worked to preserve American Indian Language as well as in other American Indian causes.
