Latinos at the Ballot Box

PBS’ Peabody Award winning documentary, Latino Americans, is a six-hour series that “chronicles Latino history in the United States from the 16th century to the present day.” PBS has a variety of lesson plans to accompany the episodes, but one entitled “Latinos at the Ballot Box” might be particularly relevant for students following the recent U.S. election for many offices, with the most focus on the presidency. This series and its accompanying lesson plans and resources were originally made available in 2013, but introducing these ideas to your students and letting them compare and contrast the information of this time with updated information in 2020 may show how the Latinx vote has changed or stayed the same over the last few years. One offering that might be interesting to compare with the Latino Americans information is from NPR, entitled “How Latino Voters Broke Expectations This Election.”
