Dr. Nigel Rothfels, Associate Professor in the UW-Milwaukee Department of History, will present a talk about his research, entitled ‘Seeing Animals in History: A Story of Collaboration and the Przewalski’s Horse’. Learn more about Dr. Nigel Rothfels’ work here.
This talk explores how a historian became involved in questions of conservation biology, and about how fraught and also enlightening discussions can be between the humanities and sciences. What happens when a biologist, focused on the life and challenges faced by an animal living today, considers the sorts of questions a historian might have about an animal that lived a century ago? How do conversations begin and where might they lead?
The presentation will begin at 4:00 PM via Microsoft Teams, preceded by an informal Q&A from 3:45 – 4:00 PM.
