Biological Sciences Hybrid Colloquium: Chloroplast Movement Behavior

October 8, 2021 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Dr. Martina Königer, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences at Wellesley College, will present a talk about her research, entitled “Chloroplast Movement Behavior.” Learn more about Dr. Königer’s research here.

Plants have evolved a range of mechanisms that allow them to optimize how much light they absorb for photosynthesis. One of the most fascinating mechanisms is the ability of plants to move their chloroplasts into different positions within cells. This talk will address several questions: How do chloroplasts know when to move? What is the mechanism and the genetics behind this behavior? How do environmental conditions, for example during growth, affect this behavior? Is this behavior crucial for growth and reproduction?

The presentation will begin at 4:00 PM in Lapham N101 or via Microsoft Teams, preceded by an informal Q&A from 3:45 – 4:00 PM. If you aren’t able to join in person, you can click here to join via Teams.
