Biological Sciences Colloquium: Dr. Zac Freedman

November 11, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Dr. Zac Freedman, Assistant Professor of Soil Microbiology at UW-Madison, will present a talk about this work entitled, “It’s the little things that count: Illuminating the microbial “black box” of soil ecology.” Read more about Dr. Freedman’s work here.

Understanding the ecology of soil systems is critical because soils form the structural and nutritional foundation for every terrestrial habitat on Earth. Interactions between biotic and abiotic components of soil systems govern whether nutrients will be retained or lost from the system. This talk will explore recent conceptual and experimental advances that aim to increase understanding of the functional consequences of soil ecological processes across natural and managed systems.

The presentation will begin at 4:00 PM in Lapham Hall N101. The talk is preceded by an informal reception from 3:45 – 4:00 PM.
