Biological Sciences Colloquium: Dr. Vera de Ferran

September 29, 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Dr. Vera de Ferran, Postdoctoral Fellow in the Latch Lab, will present a talk about her work entitled, “Helping with the Otter Questions: The application of genomic approaches in evolution, taxonomy, and conservation.”

The abstract is as follows:

The use of genomic approaches is revolutionizing several areas of Biology, including evolutionary, ecological and biogeographic studies, along with their application to the conservation and management of endangered species. In spite of their great potential, these tools are still not broadly applied to the majority of the world’s biodiversity, and their use can accelerate the resolution of old problems as well as reveal additional levels of complexity in previously described patterns. In this talk I will give some examples of the application of different approaches to investigate a set of relevant problems in this field.

The presentation will begin at 4:00 PM in Lapham N101, preceded by an informal reception from 3:45 – 4:00 PM.
