Biological Sciences Colloquium: Dr. Madhusudan Dey

November 29, 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Dr. Madhusudan Dey, Associate Professor of Microbiology in the Biological Sciences Department at UW-Milwaukee, will present a talk about his work entitled, “Sensing and Signaling in Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress.”

The abstract is as follows:

Approximately one third of cellular proteins fold into biologically active forms inside the lumen of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) before being directed to other cellular organelles or the cell surface. When proteins misfold or unfold in the ER lumen, it disrupts cellular protein homeostasis, contributing to many diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease. To address defects in protein folding, the ER initiates a set of signaling pathways collectively called the unfolded protein response. In this presentation, I will delve into the diverse signaling pathways that originate from the ER in response to protein folding challenges.

The presentation will begin at 4:00 PM in Lapham Hall N101, preceded by an informal reception from 3:45 – 4:00PM.
