Colleagues,

I share with you sad news from Dean Sally Lundeen in the College of Nursing:

Lois Olsen, RN, MS, CNM died recently at 90 years of age.  Associate Professor Olsen was a beloved and inspirational faculty member in the College of Nursing. Lois was the first Certified Nurse Midwife to practice in the state of Wisconsin and, over the course of her career, she assisted over 980 women to deliver their babies. She was recognized nationally and internationally as a pioneer in the field of midwifery – writing several books and forging important collaborations with physicians. A missionary to Africa, she spearheaded a number of early study abroad opportunities there for UWM CON students.  An extraordinary woman, Lois will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.  Her obituary is online.

Take care,

Johannes
