June 15, 2015  |  News & Events, Provost's Updates

Good morning, colleagues. Here is this week’s update:

Kudos

– The School of Information Studies ranked 4th in the discipline for research publication productivity in a worldwide measure of scholarly productivity; and in the U.S./Canada, the School is ranked 2nd. The study, that was recently published in the Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology (JASIST) measured contributions to the literature of library and information science in “articles published in 31 journals from 2007-2012.” Well done, SOIS.

– Congratulations to UITS’ Network Operations Services Team for launching “UWM WiFi Service” (i.e., the new WiFi) in Curtin, Pearse, Garland, Johnston, Holton, and Honors Halls in an unprecedented six buildings in under 60 minutes! Way to go, UITS! UWM WiFi Service has now been rolled out to 31 campus buildings. Upcoming launches include Cunningham, Theatre, Grounds, NWQA, NWQB, NWQC, and Kenwood IRC.

Dean Magda Peck

– Colleagues, as you might have seen in the media last week, Dean Peck announced her departure from UWM effective July 1st. I personally want to thank you, Magda, for your contributions as Founding Dean of the Zilber School of Public Health. Your passion for public health and your tireless advocacy of the School have established a strong foundation for the School’s future research, community engagement, and educational activities. I wish you all the best as you expand your consulting practice and partnerships for strong leadership in healthier and more just communities.

The Week:

Monday

The Chancellor’s Cabinet has its usual Monday meeting. I am meeting with the School of Continuing Education and am also attending an all-school meeting at the Zilber School of Public Health to discuss the leadership transition following Founding Dean Magda Peck’s departure from UWM. CEMAT also meets; agenda items include retreat-planning, update on dual enrollment, and exploration of scholarships for international students.

Tuesday-Wednesday

I have my weekly meeting with the Chancellor Tuesday morning. I’m leaving in the afternoon to attend the UBTech 2015 annual conference in Orlando. This year’s theme is Technology and Innovation in Higher Ed.

Thursday

A day of meetings with deans, plus I’m attending a meeting of the Work Group on Undergraduate Advising.

Friday

I have a phone conference on UW System IT – I am a board member. The rest of the day will be meetings with direct reports.
