Lisa Berger Takes Leadership Role at the Center for Urban Population Health

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, and Aurora Health Care, Inc., are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Lisa Berger to the position of Director of the Center for Urban Population Heath. The Center for Urban Population Health (CUPH) is an alliance joining the resources and expertise of two universities and a large healthcare system. The Center seeks to improve health and reduce inequities among urban communities. For more on Lisa’s appointment, see the full announcement.

Student Food Insecurity World Café

At one time or another, 50% of students have experienced not having enough food for themselves, and 38.9% of students have cut meal sizes or skipped meals because they don’t have money for food.

On Wednesday, April 26, the Student Association will discuss campus food pantries, resources for students, causes of food insecurity, and solutions to end campus hunger. Student, faculty, staff, and community member input is welcome. For more information, contact SA senator Dakota Crowell at dcrowell@uwm.edu. RSVP at the Facebook event page.

Kudos

– Gladys Mitchell-Walthour, Africology, presented her paper, “An Intersectional Analysis of Bolsa Família Recipients’ Presidential Approval of Dilma Rousseff in 2012 and 2014,” in early April at the Citizens and the State: Public Opinion, Democracy, and Development in Brazil Conference at the University of Notre Dame. This was a joint Video Conference with the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. Congratulations, Gladys!
