Below is all the information you need for our trip, please read everything carefully. You are responsible for knowing and understanding all aspects of the trip.

Poster Transportation

To limit the number of posters floating around the airport/airplane, we will consolidate posters. We will fit 4-5 posters into hard-cased poster carrying tubes. If you are interested in being one of my designated poster tube carriers, let me know! I will also ask that those who carry the posters help to coordinate poster collection at the end of the conference.

I will also have you travel as a group (or pod) through the airport so that no one is left behind. Your poster and pod groups are listed below. Those highlight in yellow are not returning with the group and those in blue are oral presentations.

Transportation to Airport

We will be taking a GO Riteway coach bus to O’Hare Airport on Monday, April 8th. We will meet in the Union near the Information Desk no later than 9:15am. The bus will leave at 9:30am sharp. We can not delay for anyone. If you miss the bus you will be responsible for getting to the airport on your own.

Airport Information to Los Angeles

Flight Information: United Airline UA 609
Departing from Chicago O’Hare Airport 1:00pm
Arriving at Los Angeles International Airport 3:30pm local time
Flight duration 4.5 hours

We will need to check-in at the airport to get our boarding passes.

Travel Considerations:

  • Most Important: You MUST have your government issued ID in order to be let through security. Triple check that you have it before leaving home on April 8th.
  • Both travel days will be long. Plan ahead to have the things you know you will need like snacks, headphones, earplugs, and medications.
  • You are allowed a carry-on and one personal item. I recommend not bringing a checked bag, but if you do, it will be at your own cost.

Ground Transportation to Hotel

We will be taking Transportation Charter Services to the hotel once we land.

Hotel Accommodations

We will be staying at the Best Western Plus Hotel at the Convention Center. This hotel has a free breakfast, gym and a pool. It is located about a half mile from the convention center.

During the Conference

When we arrive to the hotel, you should have about an hour to go to the conference center to check-in and get the lay of the land. This isn’t a requirement, but if you are presenting the next morning, I would strongly encourage it. Support your fellow UWM presenters and make an appearance at their poster or help them set up and let them do a practice run with you.

Sabrina and I will be available if you need any assistance during the conference and will be attending as many of your presentations as possible. We would love if you would take pictures and share them with us after the conference.

You get to structure your conference days however you want. Take advantage of the networking opportunities, the graduate school fair, and any other events they have.

Plan for the weather. It will be warmer than what we are used to. Think about wearing layers. It will be warm, but the conference center could be cold and it will be cooler in the evenings. Think about good walking shoes, we are walking to and from the conference center and there is a lot of walking around the center once we get there.

Trip Home

We have a very early flight home on Thursday that will require us to be on the bus to the airport by 4am. Please hold your roommates accountable for getting up and out to the bus on time.

Flight Information: United Airline UA 1841
Departing from Los Angeles International Airport 7:00am
Arriving at Chicago O’Hare Airport 1:11pm local time
Flight duration about 4 hours

Once we land we will meet our bus home. Travel time to MKE is a little more than an hour without traffic. So expect to be back at on campus around 3-3:30pm.
