Hailey Beaty is a junior B.S. Biological Sciences student at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She has worked in Dr. Karyn Frick’s Lab as of July 2021. Beaty started working in the lab through the UR@UWM program in 2021. The program allowed to begin research before school started and set off a successful college career. Her research has been funded by the Office of Undergraduate Research since the fall of 2021 through the SURF program. Through the Frick Lab, she was able to gain a better understanding on different laboratory techniques. Often assisting with western blots, behavior testing, and counting spines. During her time as an undergraduate researcher at UWM, she presented her research findings at various symposiums and national conferences including the Midwest Regional Neuroscience Conference and the UWM Undergraduate Research Symposium. She also acquired a job as a laboratory animal technician and has experience in caring for transgenic animals. She is active on campus as an Orientation Leader and the President of the Red Cross Club. She tries to make volunteering and blood drives accessible to students. She aspires to attend graduate school after graduation. Eventually, Beaty aspires to work in a laboratory setting and continue to learn throughout her life.
