Melissa has been teaching in the College of Nursing since 2019. She is a certified neonatal critical care nurse and continues to practice at the bedside when she is not busy teaching. She is a graduate of UWM's DNP Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Program with a focus on pediatric populations. For her DNP project she developed, implemented, and evaluated an evidence-based educational program to enhance pediatric nursing staff's confidence and competence in verbally de-escalating pediatric patients with psychiatric and behavioral health concerns.
