The SMSC was established with funding from NINR (P20NR010674) from 2007 to 2012 under the direction of Karen D. Marek, PhD, MBA, RN, FAAN who served as Director until 2010 followed by Rachel F. Schiffman, PhD, RN, FAAN. During this period, the SMSC achieved a number of outcomes, including a R01 to member scientist Polly Ryan, PhD, RN, CNS-BC, (R01NR013913) as well as multiple publications [1-6], and presentations.
