Welcome back – we hope you enjoyed your winter break! The fun isn’t over, however; we have been preparing plenty of fun events and valuable learning experiences for you over the next semester. Below is a list of scheduled events for our Spring 2023 calendar. As always, this is not a full list of our events – check our website for an up-to-date listing.

 

February

Everyday Resilience: Well-Being Through Mindfulness and Self-Compassion Orientation

February 1st, 12 – 1 p.m.

Join us to learn more about the upcoming workshops for Everyday Resilience! Learn about our course objectives, content covered in each session, benefits, and how this offering can support you in daily life! There will be time to meet the course facilitators and ask questions.  

 

Startup Challenge: Prototyping and Sneaky Experiments

February 3rd, 4 – 8 p.m.

Midway through the year, we learn the next phase of testing our business: prototyping! Design what your prototype will be and do, and get ready to build. This workshop is on a Friday afternoon and will be followed by a dinner that celebrates all the work you’ve done so far.

 

Social Good Morning: Ranell Washington

February 10th, 10 – 11:30 a.m.

This Social Good Morning features Ranell Washington, Co-Founder and VP of Social X MKE, Strategic Partnership Manager for Milwaukee Film, and more.

 

Everyday Resilience: Strategies for Navigating a Meaningful Life

February 14th, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

February 15th, 5:30 – 7 p.m.

Are you caught up in the daily grind, feeling like something is missing or running on empty? Learn to lead from a place of intention, using your attention to make choices that support your overall well-being. Wake up and discover how operating on autopilot may be taking over too much of your life.

Diverse Ideas

February 15th, 12:00 – 1 p.m.

Diverse Ideas is a talk series that partners with UWM offices to invite global and local entrepreneurs/community innovators for an intimate chat with UWM students, faculty, and staff. By offering these talks, LEC hopes to build a larger and more diverse network of students involved in entrepreneurship, including one that spans across disciplines and majors.

Social Good Morning: Tiff McDuffie

March 2nd, 10 – 11:30 a.m.

This Social Good Morning features Tiff McDuffie, Founder of Purposeful PLAY, a program that teaches children life lessons and fundamentals through athletics.

 

Startup Challenge: Business Basics and Financials

March 4th, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

This session will hold a hands-on workshop where you will work out expenses and income for your business, as well as ensuring you have a sustainable business model.

 

2023 UWM Qualifying Wisconsin Big Idea Tournament

March 10th, 1 – 2:30 p.m.

The winner of UWM Qualifying Wisconsin Big Idea Tournament will have the opportunity to compete alongside students from across the UW System at the WiSys Big Idea Tournament. Qualifying teams will receive exposure to business mentors, investors and lean startup champions, ongoing entrepreneurship support leading up to state finals, and opportunity to network with other student entrepreneurs.

Everyday Resilience: From Striving to Thriving – Managing Strong Emotion

March 14th, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

March 15th, 5:30 – 7 p.m.

Each day, the stress we feel can get the best of us and affect our judgments and ability to think with the clarity needed. Stress can cause us to act and react in ways we otherwise would not. In this session you will gain an understanding of the neuroscience and physiology of your difficult emotions and learn to pivot, leading yourself and others more intentionally. Discover skills like Your Stress Profile and the Three Minute Breathing Space which open the door to approaching your body’s signals as radar.

April

Startup Challenge: Storytelling and Mentor Mixer Lunch

April 1st, 9:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.

At our final booster before the 2023 Innovators Expo, learn more about pitching and storytelling to the public, customers, and investors – and work with a mentor on crafting that story.

Social Good Morning

April 13th, 10 – 11:30 a.m.

Social Good Morning is a conversation series hosted by the Lubar Entrepreneurship Center that invites local social innovators​ to have a conversation about entrepreneurship in our communities. These discussions are moderated by an LEC team member including our featured Entrepreneurs-in-Residence. Innovators will have a brief interview followed by an open-format discourse, fielding questions from the audience about their strategies and passions.

 

Everyday Resilience: Cultivating Compassionate Thinking

April 18th, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

April 19th, 5:30 – 7 p.m.

Thoughts have the magnificent capacity to help us imagine, problem-solve, communicate, and connect. However, our thoughts also have the potential to derail us with worries, ruminations, unhelpful narratives, and misconceptions. The ability to work skillfully with your own thinking patterns can make a big difference in how you make choices. In this session you will learn a framework to see thoughts as patterns to better cultivate a sense of agency around them. Learn to step back from thoughts rather than getting caught up in them.

2023 UWM Innovators Expo

May 5th, 5 – 8 p.m.

Cap off the year with the biggest entrepreneurial event on campus – the Innovators Expo. Celebrate progress, mingle with new people, and learn about the new ideas entrepreneurs on campus have created this year.
