American Family Scholarship

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) Lubar Entrepreneurship Center (LEC) is honored to award scholarships on behalf of American Family Insurance. These recipients exemplify entrepreneurship, leadership, and innovation in keeping with the goals of the Lubar Entrepreneurship Center. All of them highlight the diversity which makes UWM a unique asset in serving Milwaukee and Wisconsin. These are the students making a difference at UWM and in the Milwaukee community, and we are proud to support them thanks to American Family Insurance.

The Patricia H. Weisberg Innovation Scholarship

The UWM Lubar Entrepreneurship Center is seeking nominations for The Patricia H. Weisberg Innovation Scholarship, which was established in 2016 to provide scholarships to UWM students. The scholarship will be awarded for the 2021-22 academic year and is open to undergraduate students enrolled in ALL Schools and Colleges. The scholarships are valued at $2,000, and we anticipate awarding up to 4 scholarships for the 2021-22 academic year (final number to be determined by endowment fund performance).

The scholarship is open to those who meet the following criteria:
• Enrollment as an undergraduate student
• Innovative and/or creative abilities, demonstrated through on- or off-campus activities.

Students are encouraged to lead the scholarship application process by filling out the form attached and following submission instructions. UWM Faculty and Staff are also welcomed to nominate students by submitting the attached nomination form for each student nominee. Nominations are to be submitted by UWM Faculty and Staff. It is preferred that a student prepares information needed below and works with a UWM Faculty or Staff to submit on their behalf. Submissions can be submitted in two different formats:

  • Short summary of Innovative and/or creative abilities, demonstrated through on- or off campus activities (300-word limit).

  • Two-minute video or less with explanation of innovative and/or creative abilities, demonstrated through on- or off campus activities (video uploaded to YouTube and URL is shared).

Ideally, we will create a pool of 15-20 students from which finalists will be selected. Recipients will be notified by this office no later than April 15, 2021.

The firm nomination deadline is March 31, 2021. Scholarship coordinators are especially encouraged to share the opportunity with faculty who are involved with students in innovative and/or creative pursuits. Completed nomination forms can be uploaded here OR fill out the form here.
