Master’s Programs
The demand for materials engineers is strong, reflecting the ongoing need for experts in the development and testing of new and better materials across most industries.
Pursuing a Master of Science degree in Engineering, with a concentration in Materials Engineering allows you to work with our highly active research faculty, in materials for energy, water, composites, and electronic applications, to further your specific goals.
Flexible Program
We welcome those whose undergraduate degrees were in materials science & engineering and related disciplines such as chemistry, physics and other fields within engineering. We offer evening classes that allow you to attend classes in person after work, and you’ll choose from specialized courses and research in manufacturing, water, and energy applications.
Incredible Resources
Not only will you work with accomplished faculty, but you’ll also have access to our unparalleled resources. Our materials engineering program is the only one if its kind in Southeast Wisconsin, and we have the largest metal casting foundry of any academic institution in Wisconsin. You’ll have access to the facilities and labs on the main UWM campus, and those at the UW School of Freshwater Sciences for water research.
Industry Connections
We’re uniquely situated in Milwaukee, an industrial hub with a robust manufacturing community. Our long-term relationships with employers like Charter Steel, GE HealthCare, Johnson Controls, Metal Tek, and Rockwell Automation will benefit you. We’re widely recognized for our excellence in materials engineering research and so it should come as no surprise that all of our materials engineering faculty have funded research projects from industry or federal sources.
Accelerated Graduate Program
Qualified UWM undergraduate students can take up to six graduate credits during their senior year by participating in the Accelerated Graduate Program. This saves you time and money, as the credits are effectively counted towards your bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and charged at the undergraduate tuition rate.
