Union Art Gallery Annual Juried Exhibition
The Union Art Gallery presents the 52nd Annual Juried Exhibition, a showcase of artwork in a variety of mediums by college student artists from around the Greater Milwaukee area. Juried by a panel of three Milwaukee arts professionals, the top exhibiting artists will be announced and awarded cash prizes during the opening reception.

“I have a personal interest or collision with everything I use. I’m interested in the world around me. The stuff of everyday life.” Raised in Maine and based in NYC, Wilkins creates moving image works combining conceptual rigor, uncanny observations, and bone-dry wit. From public hearings to mysterious videotapes, his work launches meditations on images, race, Hollywood, and life under late capitalism.

Hollis Hammonds is a multimedia artist whose work, built on memory and utilizing evidence from the public collective consciousness, investigates social issues ranging from economic disparity and state violence to environmental degradation and human-made disasters. Her dystopian drawings and found-object installations have been widely exhibited throughout the US.

The UWM Percussion Area hosts World Percussion Night in the beautiful Jan Serr Studio, featuring special guest Samba da Vida MKE alongside the UWM Steel PANthers Steel Band and other student ensembles. Audiences will love the upbeat, exciting energy of Brazilian Samba and African and Puerto Rican drumming in addition to traditional and arranged music for Trinidadian steel pans performed by UWM students and faculty and vibrant community ensembles.

Experimental Tuesdays: Beatrice Gibson
Resolutely feminist in form and content, Gibson’s films explore the personal and the political and draw on cult figures from experimental literature and poetry - from Kathy Acker to Gertrude Stein. Collapsing fiction and documentary, and liquefying both, they range from experimental autobiography to nocturnal thriller and cast friends and influences as their characters and co-creators. Collaboration and credit are at their heart.

Dames at Sea
The show that launched Bernadette Peters as a Broadway star, this delightful, funny, tongue-in-cheek love letter to Hollywood musicals of the 1930s tells the story of sweet Ruby’s journey from her small hometown to New York City to become a Broadway star. There, she meets Dick, a sailor with ambitions as a songwriter. In grand Hollywood fashion, they tap dance their way from the chorus to stardom on the deck of a passing battleship. Dames at Sea is a non-stop ride of romance, laughs, dance and musical delights.

Bee currently teaches in Metals and Foundations the School of Art and Design at Texas State University.

In honor of jazz guitarist and innovator Wes Montgomery’s birthday, UWM’s Jazz Ensemble and Afro Caribbean Jazz Orchestra welcome Milwaukee-based guitarist and educator Paul Silbergleit for a special concert highlighting Montgomery’s influence on jazz history. The concert will also feature new music by New Orleans saxophonist and composer Edward Peterson.

Wind Band Conducting Symposium
The Wind Band Conducting Symposium will focus on enhancing conducting, score study, and wind band teaching. Conducting participants will conduct the UWM Wind Ensemble or Symphony Band while receiving feedback from the conducting faculty. Session topics also include conducting pedagogy, rehearsal techniques, and musicianship. Attendees may participate as either a Conducting Participant or an Observing Auditor. Conducting participants will also have the opportunity to conduct one of the large wind bands in concert at the end of the symposium.

The Ballad of Maria Marten
“It’s been a year since I died.” Thus begins Maria Marten’s story of her own abuse and murder in 1827. The notorious “Red Barn Murder” and public trial sent shockwaves throughout England and continues to capture the public imagination. While the story has all the hallmarks of a classic crime drama—a missing body, a country location, a village stuck in its conventional traditions—it is not just a murder story. Told from the victim's perspective, this powerful production reveals who Maria Marten really was in an unexpectedly joyous story of women’s resilience, friendship, and reclamation.
