SUMMARY:Jonathan Scales Fourchestra with the Steel PANthers Steel Band
DESCRIPTION:Date & TimeThursday\, October 15\, 2026 (7:30–9:30 p.m.) \n\n\nLocationZelazo Center for the Performing Arts\, Bader Hall \n\n\nYou’ve heard this before\, but the whimsically named Jonathan Scales Fourchestra is really tough to describe. Veering from in-your-face\, jaw dropping chops and passion\, to those quiet moments when the background noise disappears and you hold your breath to take in a soundscape of solitude\, the power trio of electric bass (E’Lon JD)\, drums (Maison Guidry)\, and steel pans (Jonathan Scales) combines elements of jazz\, classical\, and progressive rock\, peppered with Latin rhythms and soulful outbursts of funk. \nFrom club and festival stages across North America and Europe\, and tours of Africa\, Southeast and Central Asia as a Cultural Ambassador for the US Department of State\, to their NPR Tiny Desk Concert featuring Béla Fleck\, the Fourchestra’s live shows make even the most jaded listeners forget where they are… even if just for a precious moment. \nThis may seem an odd thing to say\, but on the verge of releasing their eighth studio recording\, Jonathan Scales Fourchestra is only now truly embracing their identity as a group. For many years\, Jonathan’s live band was a fluid lineup of top-notch musicians\, and even included an “all-star” version with bassist MonoNeon (Prince\, Nas)\, drummer Sput Searight (Snarky Puppy\, Snoop Dogg) and percussionist Weedie Braimah (Trombone Shorty\, Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah)\, as well as a number of other marquee players. Now\, however\, the Fourchestra is a decidedly indivisible band\, and Jonathan is writing for the trio\, not just the pans. \n \n\nThis event is supported by the Percussion @ UWM student organization.\n\n\nIn-person Tickets\n\n\n\n\nGeneral\n$12\n\n\nSeniors 65+\, *UWM Faculty\, Staff\, Alumni\n$10\n\n\nYouth 17 and Under\n$8\n\n\n*UWM Student\n$8\n\n\n*PSOA Student (events ONLY in your department)\nFREE\n\n\n*If you have a UWM email account\, please log in when visiting the Box Office page in order to display all UWM affiliated ticket pricing.\n \n\n\nPurchase Tickets \nView Program (PDF)

SUMMARY:Experimental Tuesdays: From the Archives (curated by Mary Wheeler)
DESCRIPTION:Date & TimeTuesday\, October 20\, 2026 (7–9:30 p.m.) \n\n\nLocationUWM Union Cinema \n\n\nCurated by MFA candidates from the Department of Film\, Video\, Animation and New Genres\, these programs feature a unique opportunity to see some of the incredible 16mm prints from the UWM Cinema Arts Archive. For each program\, the curator is invited to program a selection of films around a theme of their choosing. \nThe Cinema Arts Archive now contains over 400 essential works on 16mm film\, and a handful on 35mm\, from a range of historic and contemporary cinema. This unique and expansive archive continues to preserve\, grow\, and reflect the ever-evolving landscape of avant-garde film—representing a commitment to the past\, present\, and future of the medium. Alongside giants like Hollis Frampton\, Bruce Baillie\, Deborah Stratman\, and Jennifer Reeves lie many lesser-known gems ready to ignite curiosity and expand minds. While the collection aims to capture an array of crucial cinematic history\, modes\, and movements\, the majority of work is artist-made\, short form\, and experimental in nature. \n \n\nExperimental Tuesdays is a free public series featuring celebrated work of contemporary and historical artist-made film and video. This weekly series presents films and artists that explore the creative and critical potential of moving images. It also amplifies marginalized voices by hosting artists that represent diverse populations\, such as LGBT\, Native American\, Black and Latinx artists. Hosted by the Department of Film\, Video\, Animation & New Genres\, and presented in partnership with UWM’s Union Cinema\, this series is a bedrock of the Milwaukee arts landscape. Recent screenings include Silvia das Fadas\, Courtney Stephens\, Simon Liu\, Helena Wittman\, Jessica Bardsley\, Suneil Sanzgiri\, Mary Helena Clark\, Angelo Madsen\, and Rhayne Vermette to name a few.
