Summer open studios are available to current intermediate/advanced Jewelry & Metalsmithing and Digital Fabrication & Design students and alumni who have had previous studio training and are seeking access to help make their own self-guided projects.
Studio Information
Participants will receive access codes to the Jewelry & Metalsmithing, Blacksmithing, and Digital Fabrication & Design studios (ART 363, ART 391). Access is granted between the hours of 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. Open Studio participants need to be aware of the ongoing Summer Workshops (please refer to the online workshop schedule in your enrollment confirmation email and check with workshop instructors regarding access).
Participants MUST work in pairs for all studio activities, no one is allowed to work alone. There will be a student tech crew member on duty several hours a week and will be using the online studio schedule. No formal instruction is provided.
Participants will have access to all community tools (saws, files, pliers, hammers, etc.) and full use of the soldering, annealing, enameling, etching, and casting stations. You may utilize all power tools including band saw, drill presses, belt sanders, sandblaster, and Kessler’s donated Foredom rotary tools. The studio will provide torch fuel, pickle, etching solution, ventilation, wet work consumables and more. Participants will need to provide their own project materials such as metal, enamel, soldering supplies, or casting investment powder.
