Biography
Román is a licensed architect and educator whose career spans practice and academia across Milwaukee, Chicago, and beyond. After earning his degree from UW–Milwaukee, he contributed to projects at multiple scales—from large developments to bespoke cultural and residential spaces—before joining the University of Idaho’s Department of Architecture. There, he taught design studios, earned tenure and promotion to full professor, and gained national and international recognition for both his work and that of his students.
Now with Nagel Architects, Román continues to merge professional practice with design pedagogy. His portfolio includes facilities for the National Cemeteries in Riverside, CA, and Albuquerque, NM, the VA Fire Station in Helena, MT, and diverse residential, corporate, and commercial projects. Grounded in exploratory yet rational design processes, his teaching and practice emphasize impactful, unexpected, and enduring spatial environments that challenge conventions and foster a thoughtful future for the built environment.
