Topic: Overview of the Excavations and Woodland Occupations at the Finch Site (47JE0902)
Abstract: This presentation provides an overview of the archaeological excavations and Woodland occupations of the Finch Site (47JE0902) a multicomponent habitation locale in southeastern Wisconsin. Originally described as an historic family cemetery associated with the notorious “Fighting Finches”, the principal significance of the site reflects its lengthy Native American occupations. Late Paleoindian through Late Woodland occupations are well represented at the site, with cultural materials and features derived from largely undisturbed contexts. An overview of the site occupations will be presented, reviewing significant material culture and features. Key activity areas, associated with the Early, Middle, and Late Woodland occupations will also be discussed.
