Lara Ghisleni, PhD Dissertator, Anthropology
Roman Landscapes in Southern England: Movement and Interaction
Golda Mier Library, Room E281

Lara Ghisleni is a PhD Dissertator in UWM’s Department of Anthropology. Ghisleni’s talk will examine her ongoing dissertation research on changing landscape configurations after the Roman conquest of Britain (AD 43). Ghisleni’s work builds on recent innovative scholarship on practice and movement in archaeology, exploring how navigating through the landscape during the course of daily activities creates the contexts in which social roles, economic structures, and ties to the land are formed and transformed. Her multiscalar analysis of settlements in southwest and southeast England will utilize Geographic Information Systems to model landscape interconnectivity and patterns of movement. Ghisleni’s research contributes to a growing interdisciplinary dialogue on movement as a key concept for understanding social and economic transformations.
