“Troubling Silences: The Rhetoric of ‘Global Health’ Volunteering”


Abstract:
Claire Wendland is a medical anthropologist and physician who studies globalization and biomedicine, the anthropology of reproduction, and African healing. In addition to her appointments at UW-Madison, she is honorary senior lecturer at the University of Malawi College of Medicine. She is the author of A Heart for the Work: Journeys Through an African Medical School (University of Chicago Press 2010) as well as recent articles in Current Anthropology, Journal of Clinical Ethics, and Global Public Health.
