Lauren Léna Bogyay

Laura Léna Bogyay is an undergraduate research student graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in December 2023 and has been a studio manager and assistant for Dr. Nathaniel Stern’s art studio since September 2021. Collaborating with internationally-recognized AI artist Sasha Stiles, she is involved in researching the intersection of humans, language, technology, and art for Dr. Stern’s next exhibition project, “Mother Computer: Thinking in Natural and Artificial Intelligences”. She focuses specifically on the ways in which we use and lose our languages, and how we understand and redefine language in the age of artificial intelligence and generative technology. Inspired by the research she has pursued in Undergraduate Research and her lifelong interest in horses, Léna’s BFA thesis focuses on 1) how human interaction shaped horses both mentally and physically through millennia of evolution; 2) whether she can hypothesize their future evolution via generative art; 3) solutions for bettering the health, wellbeing, and welfare of domesticated horses by designing better environments and tools; and 4) reinforcing the connection between horses and their humans by understanding the interspecies relationship we share with them to ultimately apply this to a larger scale of animal-human relations in the modern world.
