Alexis Peterson

Alexis Peterson is a senior majoring in Biomedical Sciences with a sub-major in Medical Laboratory Sciences. Alexis is also pursuing an Honors degree. She began her involvement in undergraduate research in 2022 under the guidance of Dr. Xiaohua Peng in the Chemistry and Biochemistry department. Her research was first focused on multiple nitrogen mustard prodrugs activated by reactive-oxygen species (ROS). These prodrugs were synthesized by Peng’s lab to combat triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) and are further being expanded upon. Alexis is currently beginning a new project involving cytotoxicity of various natural drugs on normal and cancer cell lines, and ROS’ involvement in these cellular mechanisms. Alexis has had the opportunity to present her findings at the National Conference for Undergraduate Research (NCUR) 2022 and the UWM Undergraduate Research Symposium 2022. She looks forward to participating in more conferences and expanding her knowledge in science. She can be contacted at: pete2358@uwm.edu.
