Alvaro Saar Rios’ “Luchadora” was recently published by Dramatic Publishing, an Illinois-based company which offers theatrical productions to professional and amateur theaters.
The “Luchadora” world premiere was a First Stage Theater production in April at Milwaukee’s Todd Wehr Theater, in the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts.
The Peck School of the Arts assistant professor of playwriting is the co-founder of The Royal Mexican Players, a national touring troupe. One of its most recent projects, “WTF?!?!”, premiered in November at UWM. Rios other works include “One Hot Texican Summer” and “The Crazy Mexican Show.” His plays have been performed in New York, Hawaii, Chicago, Milwaukee and Texas.
“Luchadora” tells the story of the discovery of a pink wrestling mask by a young girl. Her finding prompts her grandmother to share her experience growing up in 1960s Texas and the world of lucha libre wrestling.
