Dobrev is an expert in organizational authenticity – the idea that companies can increase their appeal to buyers if viewed as authentic. He can discuss the relevance of authenticity in the craft brewing sector. He and research colleagues have found that consumers gave better reviews to craft beers with names that evoke negative rather than positive sentiments. He can talk about the reasons behind the finding and how the team of researchers conducted such an experiment, which included more than 1 million unique reviews of 42,000 beverages.

WisDOT is currently studying several alternatives for the section of I-794 from the Milwaukee River through the Lake Interchange. These include keeping the freeway as it is, improving the freeway or replacing the freeway with a surface street. Each alternative has proponents and detractors, and each will affect mobility, safety and the environment of downtown. Gottlieb can discuss the pros and cons of each alternative, and the process the DOT will follow to arrive at a final decision.

Roundabouts are numerous in Wisconsin. Qin can discuss the pros and cons of using roundabouts rather than traditional intersections with traffic lights.

Wisconsin is one of the leading states in constructing roundabouts. There are 287 roundabouts on state highways and 267 on local roads. Not all drivers like them, but roundabouts are associated with fewer traffic deaths. Qin can discuss how and why roundabouts decrease crash fatalities. He also can talk about the locations where roundabouts are more appropriate than conventional intersection traffic control types such as signalized, four-way stop or two-way stop.

Steward can discuss how an individual’s preconceptions about aging affect their health, and what to do about it.

Steward’s research focuses on healthy aging, particularly understanding and responding to ageism. He can talk about how people can actually engage in ageism against themselves and how this internalized bias affects their health. He also can describe a program he is testing with groups of people over age 50 that aims to increase participants’ self-efficacy, social connectedness and cognitive function.
