Content Creator

Currently Hiring

The Division of Marketing, Communications & University Relations (MarComm) is hiring one additional content creator to work from September 2024 through May 2025. We are looking for students who are enthusiastic about UWM and are native users and producers on social platforms like TikTok and Instagram. You are comfortable being on-camera and have a strong understanding of what engages you and others, while staying on top of current trends. Your content will highlight life as a UWM student, build Panther Pride, connect students to campus resources, and encourage participation in campus events and activities. Undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to apply. 

Eligibility
  • Currently enrolled as a UWM student at any of our three campuses: UWM main campus, UWM at Waukesha and UWM at Washington County.
  • Graduating in Spring 2025 or later. 
  • In good academic standing, at least a 2.5 GPA.
  • Enrolled in at least one in-person course.
  • Living on or off campus near one of these campuses.
  • Able to commit to program for an academic year (September–May) and create at least two TikTok videos or reels per month.
  • Be willing to cross promote content to your account. 
  • Enthusiastic about creating content and staying current on TikTok trends.
Requirements
  • Passionate about UWM and showing your Panther Pride. 
  • Create one usable UWM-related TikTok per month to be shared on UWM’s TikTok account. 
  • Add @UWMilwaukee Content Creator to your TikTok and Instagram bios.  
  • Adhere to UWM’s Student Conduct policies. 
  • Abide by university policy – all posts must be free of profanity and any inappropriate substances or materials.

Design

Marketing & Communications & Communications plans to hire five content creators to work from September 2022 through May 2023. We are looking for students who are enthusiastic about UWM and are native consumers and producers on social platforms like TikTok and Instagram. Job Duties
  • Assist the design team with graphic design needs. Example projects: simple text edits in existing documents, logo and type treatment designs, print, merchandise (t-shirts, mugs, etc.) and digital designs of varying complexities.
  • Print, trim and laminate projects for the design team. Hanging/mounting designs will also be required.
  • Assist designers and the photo team with UWM photo shoots on- and off-campus.
  • Attend and participate in team meetings, brainstorming sessions and other presentations; assist with market- and industry-related research and photo searches for designers and clients.
  • Deliver proofs to different areas of campus for the design team.
Qualifications
  • Must have experience with the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop) and be familiar with managing fonts.
  • Knowledge of WordPress, Email marketing and general HTML/CSS coding a plus. Knowledge of Acrobat and Microsoft Office Suite is also a plus.
  • Sophomore or junior pursuing a degree in art, graphic design, marketing and/or communications.
  • Available for 15 hours per week (flexible hours and up to 25 hours per week in the summer months).

Editorial Intern

Get paid to gain professional editorial experience. As an editorial assistant, you will work with and learn from a team of experienced journalists, editors and public relations professionals to post content to university webpages, including the UWM Report news site and the campus calendar. You can set your own hours to best fit your schedule and work remotely as needed, however each weekday you will need to compile reports on external media coverage about UWM and make decisions about which news stories should be posted to the news site. Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, meticulous workers.

Job Duties
  • Meticulously reading external media coverage to determine if stories are relevant to UW-Milwaukee and posting stories to UWM Report news site
  • Sending daily reports on media coverage to the UW System office in Madison
  • Writing and posting error-free campus announcements and event pages to university WordPress sites
  • Following conventions of AP Stylebook and UWM Editorial Style Guide
Qualifications

Marketing Intern / Office Assistant

Marketing interns are self-motivated and organized students interested in gaining experience as a marketing assistant and providing support to the UWM Marketing & Communications teams. This position is an excellent opportunity to continue building your skills and grow professionally while earning your degree.

Job Duties
  • Help schedule, secure props, locations and purchase wardrobe for marketing photo and video shoots.
  • Assist on large-scale photo and video shoots by securing model releases and serving as the on-site contact for student models and vendors. 
  • Work with the division’s business manager to compensate students at photo and video shoots in compliance with UWM policy.
  • Digitize and maintain database of model release forms.
  • Provide event support including set up, activation, tear down, staffing and collection and storage of event materials.
  • Provide operational support such as distributing mail, maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen/break room and delivering items between MarComm team members in the Physics Building and Chapman Hall.
  • Other marketing and operational duties as assigned.

Photography Intern

This internship will help you grow, gain real-world experience and build your portfolio.

Job Duties
  • Take photographs of students, faculty and community partners, both on- and off-campus.
  • Write photo captions.
  • Attend photo shoots with university staff photographers and help collect names and caption information.
  • Edit photos and upload them to databases.
  • Create slideshows for posting on university websites.
Qualifications
  • Sophomore or junior pursuing degree in photography/fine arts, or with extensive photography experience.

  • Collaborates with Marketing & Communications marketing, media, video and web teams.

Video Intern

Ideal student videographers have experience shooting and editing videos and will bring innovative ideas, creative energy and solid content creation skills to produce videos for UWM’s YouTubeFacebookTikTok and Instagram accounts. Additionally, we hire production assistants who are focused on expanding their on-set skills in videography, audio and lighting.

Job Duties
  • Produce social media videos for UWM’s Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube accounts, including scheduling, shooting, editing and publishing
  • Contribute ideas and execute deadlines
  • Write text for use in videos graphics and YouTube titles and summaries
  • Serve in role of production assistant on large-scale productions: This could include being a visual observer on a drone shoot, being a boom operator and running sound or helping set up and modify lights

Web Developer

As a member of the Marketing & Communications Web team you are expected to provide a professional level of customer assistance and support. Candidates for this position should have some knowledge of the tools and technologies that are associated with web development. The candidate must also have the willingness to learn and desire to make web development a career.

This is an entry level position. It is expected that a student hired into this position will require a fairly extensive amount of training. It is also expected that the employee will show initiative in learning and advancing those skills which might prevent him/her from performing at the expected level.

Job Duties
  • Complete clients’ requests for maintenance and updating of existing web pages.
  • Assist in updating and maintenance of UWM web pages as assigned by staff mentor.
  • Extensive consultation with Web and Mobile staff mentor when working on jobs for clients. All stages of projects, as well as final projects, must be proofed and approved by staff mentor prior to being released to customer.
  • Technical support for campus web content management systems.

You’ll work with and learn from a team of experienced journalists, editors and public relations professionals. This internship will help you grow, gain real-world experience and build your portfolio.

  • Report and write stories on faculty members, campus events, student life, community service, research and other topics for UWM Report and UWM’s magazines.
  • Assist with editing, fact-checking and proofreading of articles and news releases.
  • Collaborate on short-term and long-term projects as assigned by editors.

  • Be a UWM student pursing a degree in journalism, English, communications, marketing or a related major.
