UWM alum’s organization wins award

Jacarrie Kicks for Kids, an organization founded by UWM School of Education alum Jacarrie Carr, was the winner of the Morning Blend Gives Back with Bank Five Nine award this month. Every month the WTMJ-TV morning program selects a charitable organization to honor.

Carr, now president and CEO of Jacarrie Kicks for Kids, started the organization when he was still an undergraduate at UWM, collecting and refurbishing shoes for those who needed them. Classmates and faculty/staff joined in what became annual shoe drives. The organization has since expanded to include youth-driven community programming, mentorship and soft skills development.

Carr completed his undergraduate and graduate degrees at UWM. He was the first winner of the Love Kindness award in 2017, a scholarship donated to students who are helping the community. He was also honored with a GOLD (Graduate of the Last Decade) from the Alumni Association in 2018.

The Morning Blend award included a $1,000 donation to the organization from Bank Five Nine. Here’s the story on Channel 4.
