UWM opens world-class research complex

The first new building to open on UWM’s East Side campus in 20 years, the Kenwood Interdisciplinary Research Complex provides world-class facilities and state-of-the-art equipment for research in physics, public health and other fields. “I have no doubt that KIRC will attract new talent to the university and the city itself,” said Rodney Swain, dean of the College of Letters and Science.

Tina Freiburger, author of the soon-to-be-released book “Race and Ethnicity in the Juvenile Justice System,” discusses the juvenile justice issues raised by Waukesha’s ongoing Slender Man case. The upcoming adult trial of two 13-year-olds who attempted to kill a classmate to please the fictional horror character is being watched by juvenile justice reform advocates nationwide.

UWM lands share of $20 million NSF grant to help make safer nanoparticles

Freshwater Sciences Professor Rebecca Klaper and her colleagues at the Center for Sustainable Nanotechnology have received a $20 million National Science Foundation grant to help develop safer, more sustainable nanoparticles. The particles are already used in hundreds of products ranging from sunscreen to sporting goods.
