UWM pantry helps address food insecurity on campus

As the coronavirus crisis rises, the UWM Food Center and Pantry is rising to meet the need, providing hundreds of bags of food via contactless, curbside distribution.

Distribution takes place every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Patrons receive a bag with about one week’s worth of food. Special bags are available for those with dietary restrictions, including nut free, gluten free, pork free, vegetarian and vegan.

In the past three weeks, the pantry has distributed more than 450 bags of groceries to members of the UWM community, including those at the Waukesha and Washington County campuses.

The food pantry has partnered with Feeding America but is greatly in need of donations, particularly monetary. Donations can be made through the UWM Foundation: Head to UWM.edu/give, click “Give Now” and select “UWM Food Pantry.” This ensures your donation goes directly to the food pantry. The food pantry has set up an Amazon wishlist also for those wishing to help.

Check the food pantry webpage for more information, including instructions for pickup of groceries.
