The Media Scholars Colloquium Series proudly presents “The Privacy of Others”
The Media Scholars Colloquium Series proudly presents “The Privacy of Others,” a lecture by Stacy Blasiola (Ph.D. Candidate, Communication, University of Illinois at Chicago; National Science Foundation IGERT Fellow – Electronic Security & Privacy; Lecturer, Journalism, Advertising, and Media Studies, UWM).
Recent large-scale hacks such as Sony, Celebrity Nude Photo and Ashley Madison have shown that when private information is shared online, even through illegal means, millions are willing to access it. What do these information acquisition behaviors tell us about privacy? Stacy Blasiola presents findings and theoretical implications drawn from a case study of the Ashley Madison hack. Whereas current privacy scholarship takes a discloser-centered view of privacy, Blasiola asks what privacy norms look like when it’s the privacy of others at stake.
The event will take place Friday, May 12, 2017 at 3PM in Lubar Hall S165.
The Media Scholars Colloquium Series is free and open to the public.
