Appeals Process

Spring & Summer 2024 appeals are due by the end of business (5PM) on Friday, August 30, 2024.

Students who do not meet the requirements listed may go through the appeals process to seek access to JAMS major or minor classes.

Preparing the Admissions Appeal

Appeals must have the following four parts in order:

  1. An Appeal Form;
  2. An unofficial UWM transcript including grades from the semester immediately preceding the semester in which the applicant hopes to be a JAMS major or minor (How To: Request Unofficial Transcript);
  3. A current résumé;
  4. A written statement outlining not only the applicant’s academic interests and career goals, but also why the applicant did not meet declaration requirements.

One copy of the full appeal must be submitted by the deadline listed at the top of this page to allow time for the Undergraduate Committee to consider your appeal. Appeals can either be dropped off during business hours in the JAMS Main Office (Bolton 510B) or emailed to Camila Guarda Velasco (guardave@uwm.edu). Please do not staple materials or submit samples of your work or additional materials. The JAMS Undergraduate Committee will contact you if anything is needed.

Notification of Decisions About Appeals

Students who submitted appeals will be notified, via their UWM email, of the committee’s decision on their appeals. Students whose appeals are successful will be notified via email. We then recommend they meet with their assigned faculty advisor to plan out their time in JAMS.
