Kristin Pitt and Caroline Seymour-Jorn, Fellows at the Center for 21st Century Studies

Congratulations to Kristin Pitt and Caroline Seymour-Jorn, Associate Professors of Comparative Literature, who have been awarded fellowships for the 2015-2016 academic year at UWM’s Center for 21st Century Studies. Kristin Pitt’s project, “Narratives of Apathy and Atrocity: Representing Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women in North America,” examines literary representations of the ongoing feminicide in Ciudad Juarez and draws connections to other epidemics of violence against indigenous women in the Americas. Caroline Seymour-Jorn’s project, “Indigenizing Egypt,” explores the cultural creations and revolutionary art that have emerged in Cairo during and after the 2011 Egyptian Revolution and the negotiations of indigenous, national, religious, ethnic, and gendered identities in which they participate. Both studies are part of the Center for 21st Century Studies’ 2015-2016 research theme of Indigeneities.
