Freshwater Colloquium: Produced Water Problems

December 12, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 1:50 pm

Joshua Swigart will present “Produced Water Problems” as part of the School of Freshwater Sciences fall colloquium.

Joshua Swigart is a UWM PhD candidate working with Dr. Laodong Guo here at the School of Freshwater Sciences. He has a strong background investigating the environmental impacts of the oil and gas industry as an environmental consultant. In his current project, he is using his years of experience to create a system that can decontaminate water produced from oilfield wells. An added benefit to cleaning oilfield produced water is the possibility of lithium extraction, which can then be used in battery production.

His talk will cover his career path and background and discuss his 2021 paper published in Environmental Research and Public Health,Soil Contamination Assessments from Drilling Fluids and Produced Water Using Combined Field and Laboratory Investigations: A Case Study of Arkansas, USA

This presentation is open to students, faculty, staff, alumni and the public.

The Colloquium series creates a platform where students, faculty, and scientists discuss emergent issues related to freshwater science research. Invited speakers present specific topics of their research, as well as policy, commercial, and industrial experiences.
