As part of our ongoing community outreach, the School of Freshwater Sciences offers tours to the general public and K-12 school groups. These tours depart from the lobby area at the main entrance to the building at 600 E. Greenfield Avenue. The walking tour is about 90 minutes and focuses on research being conducted by our faculty, scientists, and students.

General Public Tours

Public tours are offered one Thursday a month at 12:30 p.m. This tour is intended for individuals and small groups of people. Advanced registration required. Special tour arrangements can be made for groups of 15-60. Requests for group tours must be made at least three weeks in advance and are subject to availability. Note: Participants must be at least 10 years of age.

K-12 School Tours

Due to the nature of the research going on at the facility we are not able to offer traditional tours to school groups. Possible exemptions can be made for high school classes/clubs (30 people maximum) that are focused on Great Lakes or freshwater curriculum. Exemptions are reviewed by the Outreach Manager and must be approved at least three weeks in advance and are subject to availability.
