UWM Symphony Concerto Competition Winner’s Concert & Brahms Serenade No.1
Zelazo Center for the Performing Arts, Bader Hall 2419 E. Kenwood Blvd., Milwaukee, WIThe UWM Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Jun Kim, will feature clarinetist Mauricio Franco, winner of the 2024-25 Concerto Competition, performing Marcel Bitsch’s Concertino for Bassoon (transcribed for bass clarinet). This lively mid-20th century French work is filled with playful rhythms and bold contrasts. The program also includes Brahms’ Serenade No. 1 in D Major, a lyrical composition that displays the composer’s orchestral mastery. Originally written for an octet, expanded to a chamber nonet, and later revised for small orchestra, the final version is most often performed today with a full orchestra.
