The UWM Wind Ensemble will share a concert with UWM’s High School Honors Band & String Orchestra Festival ensembles. This Saturday evening concert is a culmination of a weekend of rehearsals, lessons and experiences meant to show festival students what it’s like to be a musician at UW-Milwaukee.
Students in the annual UWM High School Honors Band & String Orchestra Festival are first nominated by their school music teachers and then selected by university faculty to participate in the weekend event. The High School Honors Band Festival provides the region’s most motivated and accomplished high school instrumentalists an opportunity to work with each other and with regionally and nationally recognized conductors. In addition, students interact with UWM performance staff and experience performances by UWM ensembles.
The UWM Wind Ensemble is the premier concert band in the Peck School of the Arts and has been recognized nationally and internationally through numerous invitations to perform at major music conferences. Emphasizing the single performer concept, the Wind Ensemble uses only players needed for a given piece, thus providing the greatest exposure for the exceptional musician.
